EU referendum results: Britain votes to leave the EU
Brexit is official! With 16,737,273 votes for Leave, Britain has voted to leave the EU, breaking the winning post in the referendum. Leave won 52% to 48%, with England and Wales voting for Leave while Scotland and Northern Ireland voted for 'Stay'.
This exit has plunged the pound against the dollar to its lowest level since 1985 as Britain lurched towards Brexit. Sterling has crashed nearly 10% to $1.34, and by more than 6% against the euro. Gold is up nearly by 6% this morning.
US markets were expected to open down 550 points on Friday morning. Trading in Tokyo was halted after stocks plunged nearly 7 per cent, while South Korea's Kospi tumbled about 4 per cent.
Crude oil prices also took a hit. As results poured in, a picture emerged of a sharply divided nation: Strong pro-EU votes in the economic and cultural powerhouse of London and semi-autonomous Scotland were countered by sweeping anti-Establishment sentiment for an exit across the rest of England, from southern seaside towns to rust-belt former industrial powerhouses in the north.
Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party, has declared June 23 Britain's 'Independence Day'.
One expert forecast the UK, will plunge back into recession.
Kathleen Brooks, of City Index, predicted shares in big banks would tumble at least 10% when markets open. She said:
“This is bad news for the country, the economy and the UK’s position in the world order. “In other words, for now at least we should batten down the hatches.”
Meanwhile, in Europe, far-right leader Geert Wilders has reportedly called for a Dutch EU Referendum “as soon as possible.”
The Party said: “The United Kingdom is leading the way to the future and liberation. The time is now for a new start, trusting in its own strength and sovereignty. Also in the Netherlands”
Prime Minister David Cameron, who called the referendum and led the 'remain' campaign, faces an uncertain future with this result.
Former London Mayor Boris Johnson. If 'leave' wins, he may have no choice but to resign.
'If the prime minister loses this I don't see how he can survive as prime minister,' said Scottish National Party lawmaker Alex Salmond.

10 Facts Most People Do Not Know About Diabetes!
Diabetes is one of the most widely misunderstood
conditions around, which is surprising considering
how widespread it is. Diabetes is a life-long
disease that affects the way your body handles
glucose, a kind of sugar, in your blood. Most
people with the condition have type 2. 415 million people have diabetes in the world and
more than 14 million people in the Africa Region;
by 2040 this figure will more than double. There
are about 27 million people in the US with it.
Another 86 million have prediabetes: Their blood
glucose is not normal, but not high enough to be diabetes yet There were more than 1.56 million
cases of diabetes in Nigeria in 2015. Statistic:
International Diabetes Federation (IDF )Africa Here are ten of the most common myths and
misconceptions
about this condition and the truth behind them. 1. Type 1 diabetes is not caused by eating
sugar… There are two main types of diabetes, helpfully
called type 1
and type 2. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease.
It develops when the immune system attacks
insulin-
producing beta cells in the pancreas. Without insulin, we can’t
regulate our blood sugar levels, and this can be
very dangerous. We don’t know exactly why the immune system
kicks off like this,
but we do know it’s not a “lifestyle choice” –
which is one of the
most common misconceptions around. As far as we
know, there’s nothing you can do to prevent type 1 diabetes. 2. Type2 diabetes is not necessarily caused by
diet either. Contrary to popular believe that Type2 diabetes is
caused by
poor diet and lifestyle alone, Type 2 diabetes can
have many
causes, including genetics and aging. It is also
often associated with obesity. But they’re wrong to do so. This too
is a myth.
Type 2 diabetes can have a wide range of causes,
including
genetics and the natural rise of blood sugar that
occurs as we get older. At least one in five people diagnosed
with type 2
have a healthy weight. 3. There could be as many as four types of
diabetes Age-related Type 2 diabetes is completely different to other
causes of type 2.
There are many types of diabetes. Along with the
big two, there’s
gestational diabetes, and many more. Type 3
diabetes is a proposed term for Alzheimer’s disease, because
there are a
lot of links between Alzheimer and blood glucose
levels in the brain. A recent study suggested that there should be a
fourth type of diabetes.
Type 4 diabetes would describe cases of type 2
diabetes caused
by aging rather than diet or genetics. The
researchers came up with this after finding that the metabolic process
was much different
in cases of type 2 diabetes caused by aging. 4. Diabetes can be very, very serious. Diabetes can have severe complications if not
tightly- managed –
including retinopathy, and sometimes amputation.
Diabetes is not a
mild disease. It is not about having the odd insulin
injection or declining a sugary dessert. Without careful
management, diabetes
can lead to complications. These complications can
affect nearly
every part of the body. Heart disease is common,
as is retinopathy (visual impairment), kidney problems, nerve
damage – in extreme
cases, diabetes can lead to amputation. 5. Diabetes takes its toll emotionally: Some studies estimate that people with diabetes
are three times more
likely to experience depression. Research
estimates that people with
diabetes are either two or three times more likely
to go through depression. It’s not surprising – dealing with a
chronic disease day in,
day out, can lead to feelings of desperation and
futility.
There’s a name for the feeling of hopelessness
that comes with diabetes – burnout. People with burnout often
neglect to control
their diabetes, making them more likely to
develop complications.
It’s a vicious cycle. Another emotional complication of diabetes is
diabulimia –
a condition that predominantly affects young
women with diabetes.
It’s defined as the deliberate skipping of insulin
injections in order to lose weight. It’s as much an issue of body image
as an issue of
diabetes, but it shows how tied to mental and
emotional well-being
diabetes can be. 6. Diabetes can affect your relationships. Diabetes can affect your relationships with loved
ones. Many’s the time
we’ve heard stories on the forum of people
walking out on their date
after realizing they had diabetes. It’s unpleasant,
and wrong, but it just goes to show the extra pressure it can sometimes
put on a relationship –
many people don’t feel ready for the extra
responsibility it brings. 7. A high-fat diet can actually help people with
diabetes. Cutting down on carbohydrates is key to good
blood sugar control,
according to recent studies. Traditionally, the NHS
has advocated
a diet based on starchy carbohydrates for people
with diabetes. Recent research, however, suggests that might not
be the best
option. Instead, a low-carb diet has been found to
make blood
glucose control easier. 8. Many, many things affect blood sugar levels. There are many, many factors that affect blood
glucose levels, including
sleep, alcohol, sex and stress. There is a massive
number of a factors
that can affect blood glucose levels. The weather.
Stress. Sex. Pollution. Alcohol. Sleep. Exercise. Flying. Illness.
Menstruation.
Pregnancy. Food. Steroids. Anti-psychotic
medications. Dehydration.
Pain. All of these things that can affect your blood
glucose levels. It’s far more complicated than simply eating the
right food. Diabetes
is like walking a tightrope with lots of people
throwing things at you
and wobbling the rope. 9. Diabetes can affect your sex life too. Diabetes can affect sexual performance. For men,
there’s
erectile dysfunction, which can be caused by nerve
damage,
along with retarded ejaculation, reduced sperm
quality, and retrograde ejaculation. For the ladies, sexual
complications
include vaginitis and cystitis. And Finally,

Obasanjo awarded $841m Abuja rail project without engineering design, MoU- CCECC staff tells Senate panel
An official of the Chinese Civil Engineering and
Construction Company (CCECC) yesterday told a
Senate panel that Former President Olusegun
Obasanjo awarded the $841m Abuja rail project
without engineering design and Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) in 2007. According to The Guardian Newspaper, CCECC's Project Manager, Etim Abak made the revelation
to the Senate Committee on Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) during an oversight to the project
site. Etim said the then Minister of FCT, Nasir el-
Rufai signed the contract on behalf of the federal
government. The Senate Committee discovered the contract,
which stood at 60.67 kilometres, was inflated by
$10 million (about N2 billion at N200 per dollar)
per kilometre even as the length was later reduced
to 45 kilometres without the refund of the cost for
the 15.67 kilometres dropped. Dino Melaye has demanded the refund of the of $195,878,296.74
( about N392 billion at N200 per dollar) being the
amount for the 15.67 kilometres cut out from the
Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company
(CCECC), handling the project. The Project Manager of the company, Etim Abak,
while answering questions from members of the
committee, said the contract was signed by the
then FCT minister without design and MOU, saying
it was carried out based on what he simply
identified as a conceptual design. “The contract was awarded based on a
conceptual design and estimates were not
properly done. There was no formal design
submitted and rail bridges and crossover
bridges were not captured in the contract,
“he told the committee. According to him, the contract sum was
$841.645,898 and project completion period was
48 months while the scope of work was 60.67km
standard gauge, with double railway tracks and
associated permanent way within FCT. Melaye
alleged that the project whose length initially stood at 60.67 kilometres, was later reduced to
45.245 without cut in the cost of the project
initially paid for. "Now, you have reduced the length of the
kilometre standard gauge from 60.67 kilometres
to 45.245 kilometres. Meanwhile, there is no
concomitant reduction if you juxtapose the length
of kilometres and the reduction in terms of the
cost. If we are to spend $841 million for 60.67 kilometres and now you have reduced to 45.245
kilometres and the only reduction in terms of
monetary value is from $841.6 million to $823
million and with reduction of just about $17
million dollars, that to me is not commensurate
with the reduction in length. The Federal Government has so far invested $31.5 billion and
another $7.6 billion from the SURE-P fund and if
you put these together, we have $39.1 billion
invested in the rail project, leaving the balance of
$113. 233,155.32million. The sum of $3 billion
dollars was proposed in the 2016 budget of the FCT for the rail project. I did a personal research
and looked at rail construction of the same
specifications , of the same technology across the
globe and one cannot but complain that the cost of
this railway project in Nigeria is on a very high
side.”he said

Argentine player shoots referee dead & injures another player after he was given red card
An amateur football match was marred by violence
after a player shot and killed a referee and also
injured another player after he was given a red
card. The match took place on Sunday in the
Campo de la Ribera area of Cordoboa, Argentina.
The referee, Cesar Flores, 48, was killed after being shot three times - once in the head, neck
and chest, according to police. According to the report bt MirrorSport, Police say
referee Cesar Flores, 48, showed the assailant a
red card for making a heavy tackle on an
opponent. The player, who is at large, then
retrieved a gun from his bag and shot Flores three
times. He also wounded another player, 25-year- old Walter Zarate, before fleeing the scene. Walter Zarate, was taken to hospital, though he is
not in critical condition. "It all happened during the match,” a police
spokesman said. “We don’t know what
happened with the referee but the player
was angry and went to get his gun and
killed him.” The shooting appears to have taken place during
an amateur game that the Argentina’s Football
Federation might not have organized. If so, this
looks like a case of social problems in the South
American nation spilling onto the field of play.
